Central City Tool Supply began in 2003 when founder Mike Steinfelt, with a passion for woodworking, left his job in the construction industry to open a small woodworking supply store in Santa Maria. The 3000 square foot store was an instant success, with construction tools sales quickly outpacing woodworking supplies. Within 2 months of opening, and business being brisk, Mike’s wife, Debie quit her full time job to help run the store.
In 2004 tool repair was added and sales continued to improve. 2005 saw massive growth and the need to add more space was obvious. We moved to our current location at 2230 S. Depot Street, and a full line of Stihl power equipment was added to our large and growing offering of tools, supplies and related equipment.
In 2006, building off of the success of our repair department, and at the behest of several key customers, Central City Tool Supply entered the world of sharpening with the purchase of our first automatic circular saw blade grinder. This success led to purchases of many more grinding and sharpening machines. Today we have over 30 specialty machines for the sharpening/grinding industry, including two Walter Woodtronic CNC saw blade grinders, and our latest acquisition, a five axis Saacke CNC tool grinder
While 2008 saw a massive downturn in the economy and cutbacks were necessary, we did not sit back and wait for business to come to us. We added more services, including custom band saw blade manufacturing as well as custom tool design and manufacture. Today, having built off of the necessity of the times, Central City Tool Supply is a top resource for the metal and woodworking industries. Our service area covers from Paso Robles to Ventura County, and east to Bakersfield.
